FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions on Golf Handicaps

Q: What is a Golf Handicap/ Handicap Certificate?

A:  A handicap is a numerical measure of a golfer's potential playing ability based on the tees played
for a given course. It is used to calculate a net score from the number of strokes actually played during a
competition, thus allowing players of different proficiency to play against each other on somewhat equal terms.
An official handicap - one that is established through the auspices of a USGA affiliated club - is called a
"handicap index." To establish a handicap index, a golfer needs a minimum of his five most recent scores,
plus the course rating and slope rating of the courses played.

A golf handicap certificate is a document issued by a golfing association that indicates a players current
handicap.  In short, a handicap certificate is your proof that you can play golf to a certain standard.

Q: Is it necessary for me to have a Golf Handicap? I never had difficulties during my golf games.

take part in Amateur, Social and Corporate Tournaments. In some cases, the Golf courses may not be busy and
